If I got a degree in Netwoking, could I work on servers for online gaming?
If not, anything in the gaming industry? It?s really my passion so i?d like to pursue it.
Thanks Joshua. I don?t want to make them (I lack heavily in the artistic department) but I want to work around them. I was thinking about Blizzard or something. I?m getting my bachelors in Networking. But really wanted to get into the gaming industry.

You would be able to work on servers in general. You won?t be designing the game in any way, shape, or form. However, if you worked for a game developement company, you could maintain their servers for them and setup required networks within the company.
If gaming is your passion, why not get into programming or graphic design?
*Just remember, Network Admins/Contractors are a dime-a-dozen today.

Anyone know of an online game where you create your own video game company?
I had downloaded a game online a while back in which you can create your own video game company and create the games that are made under that company. The game starts off around the beginning of video game consoles and you name your own console and name a game you want to make with the money you have. It really simulated the gaming industry to a high extent. Not too long ago, i bought a new computer and i can?t find the website that featured the online game. If anyone knows what I am talking about, please respond.

Is this bad for the gaming industry?
I am aspiring to become a game designer. A PAID gamedesigner. I want to go to my office every day and make games to sell. This little dream of mine just might go down the tubes because of Microsoft. I?m worried because Microsoft has a new project to allow anyone to make a game at home for the xbox360 and put it online for everyone to download and play. The worst part is, xbox wont pay them a dime!! Will this set a new trend for gaming industries? Are we going to say farewell to professionally made games forever? I want to be paid to do this, but I?m afraid this could lead to my dream?s demise. What are your thoughts?

Personally i don?t think that the Xbox Live arcade will destroy the gaming industry as we know it. Sure it allows for small developers to put out cheep games to put in their portfolio even if MS doesn?t pay them a dime. If anything i think it will be a great way for new talent to enter the industry. It won?t take over the big names in gaming like EA, Rockstar, Lucas Arts, and others because these small developers don?t have the tools to build games like Halo, God of War, or Star Wars Battlefront. Those are the types of games that people look for. These live arcade games are really nostalgic gaming experiences for the most part. They bring the gamer back to the old coin op days for maybe 10 to 15 minutes out of the day nothing more. The only way i can see the gaming industry falling to this ?free development? system is if the games you are putting out lack the quality of game play people want with the best possable graphics possable on the respected gaming system.

What degree should i go for to get a carrer in the gaming industry ?
I am looking into going to college and i am wondering what degree i should go for in order to work for possibly (EA ) In being a video game tester, looking for glitches in the game and all that fun stuff. If anyone could help me it would be great !!! and also if anyone has a college that is really good online that they can recommend that would be fantastic !! thank you

You don?t need a degree to be a video game tester.
Go to http://www.powerupgames.com/jobs and look at the requirements. You will see several entry level positions that dont need it.
Sometime they ask for a degree so they can limit the number of resumes. So, if you post a game testing position and get 200 resumes, saying you need a game design or computer degree to be a game tester takes that pile down to 15-20 resumes. Then you narrow it a bit more and start to do phone interviews.
Go get a class in game testing

Getting educated in game testing should help.
Look at how many game design colleges offer game testing classes. They are training you for a game design degree. Most dont even offer anything in the game testing area.
Avoid any hype on where you go to get information on game testing. Hype can look like this?

EA probably uses a temp agency to do their entry level game tester hiring. Look for the people advertising game testing positions in the same area and apply with them and call EA and ask their HR department which agencies they use to hire game testers.
Http:/www.powerupgames.com/jobs has some game testing jobs posted on it too.

Size of online gambling / sports betting industry?
Hi, as part of a research project, i am trying to write a paper on the online gambling industry (not pure play gaming). Sites where you can wager money plus bet on sports events etc. I need the size of the industry by revenue, # of players, # of employees. Also challenges faced by the industry, the technologies they use and what services they provide to the users ? what some use to differentiate from the others etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.
admin answers:
While there are many ways to gauge the size of any industry?by the number of employees, the output of products, tax receipts or customer count?the most common comparison is by gross revenues, or sales. When gross revenue is used to gauge the size of the gaming industry, it is a measure of how much consumers spend?or the operator wins?on legal gambling games. This appears to be an easy question. But the answers vary widely. For example, a Washington Post columnist claimed that ?Legal gambling takes in? about $637 billion yearly.
