ABC News 20/20 Anchor Elizabeth Vargas is in rehab for alcohol abuse. The network confirmed that the broadcast journalist has been in rehab for a few weeks. The 51-year-old Elizabeth Vargas had been noticeably absent from the iconic Friday night news magazine program she has co-anchored for the past several years. The New York Daily News’ ‘Confidential’ gossip column was the first to break the story, quoting an unnamed source who said the journalist had been in a “well-respected rehab center’ for ‘a few weeks,’ which coincides with her absence from television. The newspaper received official confirmation from an ABC News spokesman — “We are proud of the steps Elizabeth has taken and are pulling for her recovery. We look forward to having her back home at ABC News where she has done so much distinguished work over the years. Elizabeth is a member of our family and we will support her in every way we can.” Elizabeth Vargas herself also released a statement. She said, “Like so many people, I am dealing with addiction.
